Galen Historical Society Quarterly Meeting Picnic and SOAR Celebration

The Galen Historical Society Quarterly Meeting & Picnic and SOAR Celebration on Monday July 25th,  2016, was held at the Clyde United Methodist Church due to inclement weather. A nice crowd of people attended the picnic and enjoyed the delicious, healthy foods supplied by SOAR. Members of the Galen Historical Society provided the desserts. The Clyde Community Band serenaded the crowd during dinner. After we finished eating, the Galen Historical Society held a short business meeting. Marg Perez then presented an interesting program about the Wayne County, and Town of Galen connection with the Underground Rail Road. Sandy Bastedo, from SOAR, spoke about how the SOAR program is helping to improve the Clyde and Savannah communities. Thank you to everyone who made the annual picnic a success!

Memorial Bricks for 2016

The memorial bricks for 2016 are engraved and ready for installation by the Village of Clyde.  They should be ready in time for the Clyde Community Festival in August. Please take the time to visit Heritage Park and investigate all of the memorial bricks. There is a map of the bricks with an index at the Brick Church Museum, if you want to know where a particular brick is located. The map and index was put together by Jim Darnell, and is part of the map display at the museum.  Memorial bricks can be ordered for installation next year by contacting Beth Bailey, or getting a form at the Brick Church Museum.

January 2016 Quarterly Meeting

The Galen Historical Society held their Quarterly Meeting on January 25th, 2016, at the Brick Church Museum. Walter Gable, Seneca County Historian, presented a program about the history of the Seneca Army Depot and Sampson Naval Base in Romulus, NY. He also discussed the plight of the herd of white deer that live on the depot. Starvation and poaching are killing the famous herd of deer. Mr. Gable sold copies of his book about the Seneca Army Depot after the meeting and donated half of the proceeds to the Galen Historical Society. Thank you, Mr. Gable.
