Thank you's go out to the Anstee Family for loaning the historical society their wagon for the float, Alan Stirpe for pulling the wagon with his truck and driving during the parade, Linda Hopkins for donating the period walking outfit Adele wore, and Beth Bailey for making posters and putting it all together.

Remembering Jackson & Perkins Rose Company

Chris Davis, from the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society, presented a program of slides, photographs, and items about the Jackson & Perkins Rose Company, formerly located in Newark, NY. He discussed the beginnings of the company, and displayed slides of the parades and the gardens over the years. Later, Mr. Davis answered questions about his collection.  Carol Bailey, a former Rose Queen and longtime member of the Galen Historical Society, posed for pictures next to the collection.

Galen Historical Society July Quarterly Meeting & Annual Picnic Update

The Galen Historical Society will be holding its July Quarterly meeting and Annual Picnic on Monday July 27, 2015, at 6pm at the Clyde Methodist Church, Sodus St., Clyde, NY.   Tradionally, the picnic is held at Clyde's Lauraville Landing beside the Erie Canal. But, the mosquitoes and bugs, and the weather are causing difficulties this year. The Board of Directors decided to use the alternate venue instead.
There will be a very brief business meeting before the potluck picnic. Anyone attending will need to bring their own dishes, dinnerware, drink (water will be provided), and a dish to pass. ( One dish to pass per family is sufficient.) After dinner, Chris Davis, from the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society, will present a program about the Jackson & Perkins Rose Company.
Everyone is invited to join us and have a good time. We hope to see you there!

Brick Church Museum Summer Schedule for 2015

The Galen Historical Society Board of Directors has decided to delay opening the Brick Church Museum until Saturday June 20th, 2015, due to road construction and closures.  We are hopeful that we can resume our normal summer schedule at that time. Museum hours are Wednesdays from 1-3pm, Saturdays from 10am- Noon, and by appointment.
This summer we will be featuring a display about Clyde's downtown retail buildings past and present. Hugh and Joel Miner are working hard to make it an interesting exhibit.  Comments and suggestions are welcome.
The Brick Church Museum will also be closed on Saturday July 4th, Wednesday July 15th, and Wednesday August 12th, 2015.
